Pneumonia, its as fun to spell as it is to have

April 22, 2012

What I thought was an annoying cough turned into a hacking cough.

I took Suki to the doctor for her hacking cough on a Friday. She had bronchitis, he prescribed an antibiotic just to be safe.

Monday she was feeling better and went to school. I felt worse, stayed home and went to the doctor.

Suki had bronchitis. I had pneumonia.

The doctor prescribed the same antibiotic that Suki was taking, a cough syrup, more frequent use of my inhaler, and a week off from school.

Tuesday Suki took my antibiotic by mistake. But she didn’t just take one pill. No she took four.

This prompted my first ever call to poison control, which was after I called Rite Aid to see if it was a toxic level or not.

A daily dose is 250mg, with 500mg on the first day. Suki had taken 1000mg.

Poison control said she’d have a stomach ache, with possible diarrhea and vomiting. If the diarrhea persisted for more than 24 hours to take her to the doctor because she may have killed the good bacteria in her system.

Tuesday she had a stomach ache and diarrhea.

Wednesday she went to school and was fine.

Thursday at 5 a.m. she vomited.

I was mean and sent her to school anyways. She wasn’t contagious and she hadn’t vomited again.

It’s now Sunday, I’ve taken a full course of antibiotics, even though I still have three days worth left. (I had to get a new prescription.) I don’t feel much better.

I’m doing schoolwork from home.

I’m going to the doctor again tomorrow to make sure I’m well enough to go to school.

I’m going to school on Wednesday unless I’m in the hospital. I have a test in psych and a Power Point presentation due in music.

The school year is almost over. (May 24th!) I’m trying to maintain at least a B in each class. Being absent for 1 1/2 weeks is not helping this.
